Barcis – A significant increase in tourist arrivals has been recorded in the municipality of Barcis, with numbers rising from 18,000 in 2023 to over 28,000 in 2024. This positive result is the outcome of promotional strategies implemented by PromoTurismoFVG and the expansion of the ski area in Piancavallo, made possible by the regional law on facilities at the end of 2022. These initiatives have had a significant impact on the destagionalization of the tourism offer, making the mountain area more accessible throughout the year.
Regional policies in favor of tourism
The regional councilor for Business and Tourism Activities, Sergio Emidio Bini, commented on the data in a meeting with the mayor of Barcis, Claudio Traina, and the Tourism councilor, Marco Tinor, highlighting the strong increase in tourism in the mountain center of Valcellina in recent years. In fact, in the last ten years, arrivals have almost tripled, going from 11,000 in 2013 to the current over 28,000.
Bini emphasized how the initiatives implemented by the Region, especially in the post-Covid period, have yielded positive results, with an increase in arrivals in all regional mountain areas. “The ongoing commitment to promotion and tourism development is showing concrete results, not only in terms of numbers but also in terms of visibility and attractiveness of our territory,” said the councilor.
Territorial marketing strategy for small communities
The representative of the Regional Government reiterated the importance of continuing with activities of territorial marketing to enhance the local small communities in mountain areas, with a strategy that looks at the entire system. The goal, as explained by Bini, is to strengthen the tourism offer linked to the outdoor, encouraging investments and events that promote slow tourism and outdoor sports and hiking activities.
Barcis as a model of sustainable tourism
According to Bini, the growth of outdoor tourism can represent a great opportunity for Barcis and the entire area of Valcellina, becoming a distinctive element for the territory. “We can draw inspiration from successful experiences and recent projects that are yielding excellent results in other areas of the Region,” concluded the councilor. The ultimate goal is to make sustainable tourism an increasingly qualifying part of Barcis’s tourism offer, increasing the visibility of the area and stimulating economic growth through activities that attract visitors throughout the year.
